Whether we are catching thermals at our summer field or navigating the gym in Hanmer during the winter, SMAC keeps the spirit of aviation alive year-round. Our events range from casual Sunday fly-ins to structured training clinics and community BBQs. We welcome spectators and new pilots to join us at any of our scheduled sessions to see what R/C flight is all about!
June 6
SMAC Fun Fly
Coming June 6th (rain date June 7) is our annual SMAC Fun Fly. This is an open invitation to all MAAC members throughout Northern Ontario (South invited too of course!), to come join in the fun of fl ying our planes, swapping stories and revel in this great hobby of ours.
Plans are underway to make this a special event with prizes, raffl es, food and more. Details are in discussion so stay tuned for more info!
August 1-2
NOIC
Once again our club will be hosting the Northern Ontario IMAC Challenge (NOIC). This is the longest running IMAC contest in Canada with a storied history and great competition.
Preparations are already underway as we bring this back amid all the challenges pilots and crew have had to face with changing regulations in regards to air safety.
A full two day event with a special emphasis on new pilots in the basic class, we hope to bring some new history to this special contest. Much more to follow

Take Your First Flight with SMAC
Starting out in R/C aviation can be overwhelming, but you don't have to do it alone. At the Sudbury Model Aircraft Club, we take pride in mentoring the next generation of pilots. Whether you’ve just bought your first trainer plane or are still deciding which model is right for you, our members are here to help.
July 14 - 17
IMAC
IMAC (International Miniature Aerobatic Club) events are precision RC flying competitions focused on scale aerobatics, where pilots fly ranked sequences (Aresti notation) judged on accuracy, often using large gasoline-powered aircraft. These events feature multiple classes from Basic to Unlimited, with 2026 Nationals scheduled for July 14-17 in Muncie, IN.
